On the Farm

Episode One - A Closed Loop

Welcome to a docuseries I started years ago, and am finally bringing to full completion.

Previously housed on Vimeo on Demand, I am moving this series here in order to keep my work; which spans filmmaking, photography and writing in one centralized location. The first episode is free and available to the public. Yes, that does mean I am embarking on a subscription model for my work, if you didn’t catch my earlier post today. I hope you will consider supporting me!

About the series

On the Farm is a documentary web series that chronicles a calendar year at Natick Community Organic Farm in Massachusetts. Becca, Casey, Deena, Jon and Lynda are the staffers that run and operate an educational-based community organic farm; while Katy, a young Texas transplant, tries to launch her own sustainable farm in neighboring Millis, Massachusetts. The show’s episodes delve into the lives of the community-driven Farmers and the day to day operation of a locally-focused public gem.

Why does this matter now?

There has been a big homesteading movement for years, and as the federal regulatory landscape shifts it’s harder to know what the process of your food from seed to table looks like.

I’ve always been an adamant supporter of local farms, most notably with my work on the series Food for Thought for Isthmus Publishing. If you haven’t checked it out, please do!

One way we are going to get through the years ahead will be by building community. Something this series focuses on. Know your farmers, your neighbors. Grow together, share a CSA. Support those that steward the land around you, whether you live in a big city or a rural mountain town.

Leave a comment, let me know what local farms or organizations you support in your area! It might give me some ideas on places or people to write about. Let me know what matters to you about your community!
